BRIDGE Research & Innovation - Parliaments. Peace. Policy

The Regional Governance and IGAD training program of the Bridge Research and Innovation Training Program is dedicated to equipping diplomats, scholars, and interested individuals with a deep understanding of how the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) functions, its institutional dynamics, and its role in shaping policy development across the Horn of Africa. The program provides structured and practical training on IGAD’s governance structures, decision-making processes, and mechanisms for addressing regional dynamics such as peacebuilding, migration management, climate resilience, and economic cooperation. In addition, the training facilitates broader knowledge of the regional geopolitical and political dynamics of the Horn and Eastern Africa, offering participants a comprehensive perspective that combines theoretical foundations with applied learning. The training offers a dawn-to-dusk programme of instructions and discussion designed to bring depth to understanding of each sub-region of the Horn and Eastern Africa. The teaching staff of the course include scholars, practitioners from the region and leading international specialists. An examination of the historical, environmental and cultural features of the countries in question provides basis for an analytical account of current political and developmental challenges. The course involve lectures, seminars, panel discussions, debates, special events and local excursions.
